VilniusSec meetup #11

Summer vacation season in full swing – yet another invitation to join us for some beverages and informal chats with the local cybersecurity community.

VilniusSec meetup #10

VilniusSec meetup #9

To close off 2025 we went back to basics and to the place where it all started – Alaus Namai. The format was, once again, non-existent: informal chats over a cold pint just before the winter festivity madness began.

VilniusSec meetup #2^3

Talks:

  1. Tomas Lažauninkas explored two critical remote code execution vulnerabilities discovered through bug bounty hunting on an enterprise data platform. The first demonstrated how JavaScript-based variable substitution features can be exploited to achieve arbitrary code execution. The second showcased a creative attack chain combining a path traversal vulnerability in a package manager with SSH client configuration poisoning to achieve command execution.

  2. Aušrius Juozapavičius discussed how fraud is often treated as a singular event, while effective prevention and response demand a more nuanced understanding. The talk introduced a systematic framework for classifying and dissecting the diverse types of fraudulent activities. Attendees learned:

    • major categories and sub-species of fraud, moving beyond common labels to analyze the underlying mechanisms and intents;
    • patterns, tools, and psychological drivers common to different fraud types, allowing for more accurate risk modeling;
    • how a taxonomic approach can be used to predict emerging fraud trends and strategically allocate detection and mitigation resources.
